CommerceNet
A global nonprofit organization that works with industry executives, academia,
entrepreneurs, and investors to promote and advance e-commerce globally
– in its words, to advance "business process interoperability." Its
key aim is the adoption of open Internet standards to facilitate greater
ease of electronic commercial interactions. The site highlights pilot
studies and provides access to research reports and electronic newsletters.
Domain Names
Better-WhoIs.com:
Domain Name Search
Since the deregulation of domain-name registration, each domain registrar
now keeps its own WHOIS database that doesn't include domains registered
by competing registrars. On this site, you can look up domain names in
the shared domain registry (although searches are limited to .com, .org,
and .net domains), locate which registrar has reserved the name, and then
query that registrar's database for the correct information.
InterNIC
U.S. Department of Commerce site that was the original domain registrar;
still worth visiting for list of ICANN-accredited (Internet Corporation
for Assigned Names and Numbers) registrars that are currently taking registrations
in the .com, .net and .org domains. Includes frequently asked questions
regarding domain-name registration and links for submitting complaints
regarding incomplete or inaccurate registrations.
