Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS)
BTS is part of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration, which compiles, analyzes, and publishes comprehensive transportation statistics. Energy Information Administration (EIA)
A division of the U.S. Department of Energy, the EIA provides a wide range of free information and data covering energy production, stocks, demand, imports, exports, and prices. It also prepares analyses and special reports on topics of current interest. Along with its online data, EIA publishes This Week in Petroleum, Coal News and Markets, Natural Gas Weekly Update, Weekly Petroleum Status Report, State Energy Profiles, Country Energy Profiles, and several other newsletters.

Kauffman Foundation
The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation is perhaps the world's largest foundation devoted to entrepreneurship. Its Kauffman Firm Survey (KFS), a valuable source of statistics, is derived from a panel study of 4,928 businesses founded in 2004 and tracked over their early years of operation. The survey focuses on the nature of new business formation activity; characteristics of the strategy, offerings, and employment patterns of new businesses; the nature of the financial and organizational arrangements of these businesses; and the characteristics of their founders. Currently, free data from the baseline survey and first, second, and third follow-up surveys are available for analysis, and data from the fourth follow-up survey is scheduled to be released in spring 2010.
